Jazz Live at the Library – July 13, 2023 – Retro Nouveau – 7:00-8:15pm
The Jazz Arts Foundation and the Lexington Public Library are proud to continue Season 14 of Jazz: Live at the Library!, a series of monthly concerts held at the Farish Theatre in the Central Library Branch, 140 East Main St. in downtown Lexington. Show #166 again brings back a member of Cincinnati’s Jazz Hall of Fame to our stage. Bassist Mike Sharfe has played for five decades with credits on more than 250 records/CDs. As the leader and musical mentor of the Retro Nouveau Quartet, he brings back Brian Batchelor Glader on keyboards, Josh Kline on tenor sax and Jeff Mellot on drums for return visits to our series. The focus of the group lies in providing original adaptations to the compositions of the jazz greats of the past, such as John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Thelonius Monk, & Wayne Shorter, and offering a new look at their vintage classics. The group is a modern, main-stream ensemble with one foot forward and one foot back.
These monthly concerts are sponsored by Jamey Aebersold Jazz, www.jazzbooks.com and the Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc. and www.jazzartsfoundation.org.
Important Note: The wearing of masks is encouraged for these indoor shows, but not required. Thanks.
