Chester Grundy and Miles Osland win honors at the Governor’s Awards in the Arts

The Jazz Arts Foundation congratulates charter members and past board members Chester Grundy and Miles Osland for their recognition for their work with the Arts and Jazz at the 2016 Governor’s Awards in the Arts. Chester and his wife Msiba Ann received top honor – the Milner Award for outstanding philanthropic contributions to the Arts – for their contributions to the cultural life of Lexington and the University of Kentucky. Accepting the award, Chester spoke about the importance of the arts in a humane society – “Art nourishes the souls of our children and reveals to them the deepest levels of their humanity. Art teaches them the values of a civilized society.” Miles Osland took honors for education whose students commented on the guidance the University of Kentucky saxophone professor provided them. “I’d like to thank all of my students past, present and future; they really are my lifeblood,” said Osland, whose honor along with the Grundy’s lent an undercurrent of jazz to the day.
