At the December 6th Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc. Board Meeting current Director and Executive Committee member, Dave Birdwhistell, was elected President for 2018. Other officers elected were: VP – Teresa Tope, Secretary & Treasurer – Ron Allen, and Director/Executive Committee member – Terry Buckner. May marks the beginning of the eighth year for the Jazz on the Porch FREE live jazz series at Talon Winery. The series concerts are held on the last Sunday of the month from May to September and feature a different group of musicians each month. Again this year the musicians are being sponsored by O’Donnell Family Dentistry, the venue is provided by Talon Winery, and publicity was made possible by a Community Grant from IBM. The Jazz Arts Foundation has awarded its 2017 Duke Madison Memorial Scholarship to Thomas Kikuchi. The son of Ken and Paige Kikuchi, Thomas is currently a Senior at Lafayette High School and is a member of the Central Kentucky Youth Jazz Arts Orchestra (CKYO JAO). His primary focus is the piano, but he is also accomplished on the drums. After graduation Thomas plans on majoring in engineering at Northwestern University. By accepting this award, Thomas will be granted tuition and lodging at Jamey Aebersold’s Summer 2017 Jazz Workshop in Louisville, KY.
