The Randy Villars Band entertains the September Jazz: Live at the Library! attendees.

Thursday, September 8, 2016 brought The Randy Villars Band to the Central Branch of Lexington, KY library for the 113th concert of the Jazz: Live at the Library! Series, hosted by The Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc. and sponsored by Jamey Aebersold Jazz.

I arrived late, but better late than not at all, for I could have missed an excellent introduction to Randy Villars, who blessed the stage of The Farish Theater as the 195th individual musician to play in this series.  Randy is a classically trained clarinetist, saxophonist and pianist as well as a composer, arranger, music educator and author. Randy played a 1962 Selmer Mark 6 tenor saxophone for this concert. Between the two, a warm, deep rich sound resonated in the theater and combined with the excellent drumming by Phil Tipton, bass guitar and bass playing of Matt Wiles and Brandon Scott Coleman’s guitar playing and picking led to a night of enjoyable music and camaraderie.

This year The Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc. is celebrating it’s 26th year and they are celebrating it by bringing in some of the best jazz music and musicians from all over. Sunday, September 25th, 2016, 3-6PM, is the next Jazz on the Porch Series @ Talon Winery.  BackbeatCasper Reed/Guitar & Lead Vocals, Paul Meece/Guitar & Backup Vocals, Jonathan Hunt/Bass & Backup Vocals, Fred Roberts/Drums & Backup Vocals is the feature band for this FREE concert. The concerts are held rain or shine, so plan now to be there and bring your family, friends, and pets. (FYI-the August 28, 2016 concert featuring Baja Yetis, it rained everywhere but not at the Talon Winery. So don’t let rain stop you from attending.)

Thursday, October 13, 2016 is the next concert on the docket for the Jazz: Live at the Library! Series. The Kendall Carter Organ Quartet will be the feature.  You can check out Kendall Carter at: http://www.kendallcartermusic.com/.

Lexingtonians and surrounding county residents and visitors come out, support the arts and support Jazz and the wonderful and talented musicians that play for our enjoyment and support the great work done hosting these concerts by The Jazz Arts Foundation, http://www.jazzartsfoundation.org , sponsored and funded by Jamey Aebersold Jazz.
