James Poole & Paladin

In 2005, trumpeter James Mallard Poole III moved from New Orleans to Lexington, fleeing hurricane Katrina and seeking safety for his wife and family. With his house and possessions destroyed, they made the decision to make a new home here, and James has been making music ever since. Inspired by his father, namesake, and also a trumpeter, his professional life revolved around playing, performing, and teaching music. In no time, James had established a name for himself in Lexington. In 2007, he met Mark Gardner, a keyboard player from the Danville area. They formed a duet that grew by adding a student drummer from Louisville, Brehnan Miller, who now teaches and plays professionally. In 2015, bassist Tom Covello
joined the group, now called Paladin, and they began the process James calls “Organa” or the Living Music – always changing and evolving from the contributions and original compositions from each member.
