CKYO Jazz Arts Orchestra
Jazz Arts Foundation Youth Ensemble, now presented by CKYO,
will feature area’s best young jazz/big band musicians.
Lexington, KY, December 12, 2007: The Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras (CKYO), a local arts organization providing advanced training and performance opportunities to over 300 young musicians in Lexington and Central Kentucky, has adopted the former Jazz Arts Foundation Youth Ensemble, and thus will add big-band jazz to its highly successful program of full orchestra and string ensembles for young musicians. The Jazz Arts Foundation will continue to serve in an advisory role. As the new CKYO Jazz Arts Orchestra, the jazz ensemble will feature many of the area’s best high school musicians, and will be directed by leading area jazz artist and University of Kentucky trumpet professor, Mark Clodfelter.
“Mr. Clodfelter is an outstanding local talent with tremendous big band jazz experience”, says CKYO Music Director William Prinzing Briggs. “We are extremely excited that he will be leading this all-star group of young jazz students.”
The new CKYO Jazz Arts Orchestra will be comprised of the typical big-band jazz ensemble instrumentation: alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, trombones, trumpets – and a full rhythm section featuring drums, bass, guitar and piano.
Auditions for the group will be held on Tuesday, January 8th at 7 PM. Weekly rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, January 15th, from 7-9 PM. Performance venues will include the Lexington Opera House, Downtown Arts Center, Ecton Park and July 4th Festival, among many others.
