THE JOHNSON BROTHERS BAND PLAYED STEELY DAN
 
The September 20, 2007 concert by the Johnson Brothers at UK Memorial Hall helped fund the Jazz Arts Foundation Youth Ensemble and the Duke Madison Scholarship used to send a deserving YE member to the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp each year. 2007 DUKE MADISON SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT - PHIL DUFF
 
The Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc. announces that Youth Ensemble member and Tates Creek High School Junior, Phil Duff, has been awarded the annual Duke Madison Scholarship to attend a week at the prestigious Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp in Louisville, KY. Phil plays the alto saxophone and has been a member of the YE since 2005. Upon completion of the camp, Phil will write an article for the JAF newsletter and website describing his experiences, so check back in order to catch his perspective and insights.

After six years of compiling and writing, Byron Romanowitz, has released his book Jazz In Lexington: A Personal View. Click HERE for more information about the book and to view a flyer announcing it. You can examine and order the book at the JAF table at Ecton Park. JAZZ ARTS MONTHLY SALUTE SERIES
 
Date:  Saturday, May 13, 2006
Time:  2 PM
Venue:  Downtown Lexington Library Theatre
Theme:  Honor John Richardson for 10 years as Youth Ensemble director
Admission:  FREE, at the door. Donations will be accepted to help benefit the Youth Ensemble.
 
Performing will be the 2006 Jazz Arts Foundation Youth Ensemble (JAFYE) under new director, Larry Nelson. A "dessert" reception will follow in the Library art gallery.

JAZZ ARTS MONTHLY SUNDAY SALUTE SERIES
Date:  Sunday, February 26, 2006
Time:  4:30PM
Venue:  UK Memorial Hall (free parking available in lots behind the building)
Theme:  The music of Don Wilson's era
Admission:   At the door only - General Public $10; JAF members with current membership card $8; and full-time students with valid ID $5.
 
February's salute will be to Don Wilson. Performing will be MAMAs Band which will be augmented by some past & present Don Wilson Music employees, including: David Anderson, Larry Nelson, & John Richardson on saxes, Eddie Prichard on trumpet, Jim Grubbs on trombone, Tom Senff on piano, Kevin Kehrberg on bass, and John Knight on drums. Plus a special appearance by vocalist Ms.Genie Walker accompanied by Harold Sherman on piano.
 
Proceeds from this event will benefit the youth educational endeavors (including the Youth Ensemble) of the Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc.
The concerts in the series are co-sponsored by WRFL/88.1FM.

Announcing the 2005 Duke Madison Scholarship Recipient
Youth Ensemble trumpeter, Jacob Ruiz, a Junior at Lexington Catholic HS, has been awarded the annual Duke Madison Scholarship. The schloarship covers the tuition for Jacob to attend Jamey Aebersold's prestigeous Summer Jazz Workshop at the University of Louisville in July, 2005. When you attend a concert by our Jazz Arts Foundation Youth Ensemble, be sure to congratulate Jacob.
